i never want to see you
in the raw and searing flesh
i don't ever want to hear you
singing softly to the dead
i never want to feel your skin
running warm along my side
i don't ever want to sink that way again
it would be easier to die
to die
i'm tending the pyres of my frustrations
burning leaves on buried dreams
kneeling in to rake the ashes
i'm embering. you're smoldered out.
my hands are free,
my lungs are proud
your forgiveness is a fading fiction
your forgiveness is a fading fiction
these flames have never burned so high
i won't be staring in your eyes
i'm trying hard not to remember
the way the smoke drifts through the air
we'll all be dead come november
four months out of every year
every year
(every year)
i won't be staring in your eyes
every year
about
The Lawrence Arms is a super important band to us. I (Jack) was getting into them right when I started writing stuff for what would (eventually) become Atlas On Strike.
We recorded this for a contest to be on the soundtrack for a documentary about Fat Wreck Chords (a great label) and lost because I thought that the album that this is originally on came out in 1999 but it actually came out in 2003 and the rules said it had to be "pre-2000" Fat Wreck. If you ask me the best stuff came after 2000 on that label, but I'm rambling. We also probably lost cause we suck.
Anyway...please enjoy this cover. I imagine it as Slapstick-era Brendan Kelly traveling into the future and meeting TLA-era Brendan Kelly and then covering his future band's song in his present band...if that makes any sense at all..
